About Phyllis

Phyllis Martin is a dynamic, non-profit leader with more than 25 years of experience in the third sector. She currently serves as Executive Director of the Jewish Endowment Foundation of South Carolina.

Phyllis has served organizations, including YWCAs, United Ways, mental health organizations, and Chambers of Commerce locally, regionally, and nationally. Her combination of lived experience, perspective, ability to communicate truthfully and transparently despite known challenges, and understanding that there is no substitute for history, context, and timing, has provided the foundation for organizations, boards, and communities to take the road less traveled when developing plans, programs, messaging, strategies, and culture.

Phyllis deeply understands the value and impact of a high performing third sector. Her understanding of philanthropy and forms of philanthropic capital, combined with her award-winning practical and tactical approaches to program development, advocacy, social investing, and public/private partnerships, has driven organizations to sustainable success, including implementation of the low-country of South Carolina’s first data collaborative, ultimately changing the way organizations work together and that funders and donors invest in performance and outcomes driven work.

As an experienced leader and practitioner, she has watched as communities have learned to shift paradigms, increase transparency, expand their abilities to maintain partnerships in spite of tensions, change resource flows and practices to drive results.

Phyllis is a powerful, impactful speaker with a natural gift for sharing unique perspectives, new ways of addressing issues, bringing people together for the greater good – including unlikely allies and partners.

She is truthful, transparent, unafraid to deliver difficult messages, and patient enough to sit through difficult conversations. She attributes her success to her humility, grace, and a firm belief in what is possible when organizations and communities set aside ego and come together for the greater good.

About Coretta

Coretta Hill isn’t just any leader—she’s the one you call when you want to turn big dreams into even bigger realities. With over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit world, Coretta has perfected the art of making a difference, and she’s currently doing just that as the Chief Operating Officer at United Way of Northeast Florida.

Coretta’s leadership mantra? Listen first, lead with heart, and empower others to shine. She’s the go-to mentor for anyone looking to level up in life—especially young adults and women ready to break the mold. Her superpowers include strategic planning, organizational magic, fundraising finesse, and communication skills that could charm even the toughest crowd.

Her career journey reads like a playbook for success. From shaping strategies at the Jacksonville Public Education Fund to leading impactful initiatives with United Way across different regions, Coretta’s been there, done that, and made it better. Plus, her roots in news writing and media relations mean she knows how to tell a story that sticks.

Coretta’s brainpower comes with credentials: a Master of Public Administration with a focus on Nonprofit Management from Albany State University and a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the one and only Fort Valley State University (shoutout to her fellow HBCU alums!). But Coretta’s not just about work—she’s all about the community, too. Whether she’s serving as Vice Chair on the Board of Directors for Level the Playing Field Leadership Academy, or rolling up her sleeves for Tiger Academy, the North Florida School of Special Education, or the Public Service Grants Committee for the Jacksonville Cultural Council, she’s in it to win it for the people she serves.

At home, Coretta teams up with her husband, retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Marcus Hill (who now runs the show as Transportation Manager for Coke Florida in Jacksonville). Together, they’re the proud parents of two grown-up kids, Christopher, an educator and football coach (33) and Kimari, a market research and merchandising coordinator in the fashion industry (24). They make her very proud.
